Run To Uganda Team Runner
Expectations
Our team members are encouraged to set a few main goals.
1. 1. Log weekly
miles: The distance between Tulsa, Okla., and Lira, Uganda, is
approximately 8,225 miles (as the crow flies). To live up to the name of the
fundraiser, Run To Uganda, teams will log weekly running
miles, and we will organize them into a spreadsheet. You’re not expected
to run 50 miles a week. Averaging around 10-15 miles per week would be ideal,
but there might be weeks when you don’t get to run at all, and that’s fine. The
most important thing is actively improving your health and having supportive
people to help keep you accountable.
2.
2. Help promote
the Run To Uganda (RTU): Logging miles probably will be the most visibly
quantified goal, but we don’t think it’s the most important. Hundreds of
runners could just send us their miles every week, and we could hit our 8,225-mile
goal quickly. Rather, we want you to focus on helping
us promote the fundraiser and Project Hope Worldwide (PHW). Our
trying to raise $50,000—just the two of us—seems almost insane. But with your
help and networks of friends and family, we will reach the goal together. You
can help us by promoting our Facebook page, the blog, twitter and the PHW
website. Tell all your friends, family, co-workers, etc. Spend some time on the
PHW website to see what it’s all about. Pray about it, and more than likely,
you’ll feel tugged to help these precious children.
3.
3. More promotion:
Goal No. 3 is somewhat of an extension of goal No. 2. It involves going to running events and races and promoting the Run To
Uganda. You can wear RTU apparel, pass out our cards and info, talk
to runners or just cheer for us or your other team members at events. Many
people notice and become curious when so many people are wearing the same
shirts at an event. Please help us make people curious.
4.
4. Help find
donations: Persuade others to donate to RTU.
You have free range to get creative. You can get people to sponsor you for
miles run, and other people might want to donate a set amount because you’re
passionate about PHW. You can also help
us sell shirts and other merchandise. There are a million ways to get people to
donate, and we know you have your own creative styles and skills. Use them how
you see fit. You don’t have to raise a mandatory minimum—just do your best.
Also, we’re looking for corporate sponsors. Any help with prospects will be
greatly appreciated.
5.
5. Give:
The final thing we are asking of each of you is something we wrestled with
during our meetings. We decided to ask each of you to also
donate at least $100 to Project Hope Worldwide. You’ll feel more
invested in our event, and it helps offset some of the cost for the shirts and
gear that you’ll receive as a team member. We want as much of every dollar
raised as possible to go to the orphanage. We’re doing this, too. (Jono and his
family sponsor a child and help out in other PHW fundraisers. Paul and his wife
give regularly to PHW and donated the first $1,000 to the Run To Uganda event.)
Over the years, we’ve seen the power of giving and the blessings that come from
a cheerful heart. We highly recommend it.
So there you have it.
Five goals to which we are asking our partners help us with as we strive for that $50,000 target. Thank you for your
hard work, and we look forward to a great year of health, personal growth and,
most important, doing a little something to change the lives of orphans who
otherwise have no hope. Please pray for this hope … Pray for Project Hope.
THINK BIG!

not a big enough project.” —Lynn Becker
